I recently had to go to the dentist.
Not for anything dramatic, but I was experiencing some discomfort, so an appointment was made and I went along to get my teeth checked out.
Dentist appointments are one of those things that we dread going to as we are never quite sure about what is going to happen.
There is one thing that we can be sure about, if we put it off and try to ignore the pain, it won’t get better by itself. You have to get it seen to, even if there is pain involved.
This is true of many other matters in life as well.
If you have an underperforming staff member, don’t put off the conversation. They won’t get better by themselves, they need your direction, so get involved even if it is uncomfortable.
If you have a misbehaving child, they’re not going to suddenly get better without your intervention. In fact there’s every chance that they will get worse. Don’t put off the discipline and boundaries that you need to create just because it’s difficult, the consequences will be worse if you don’t.
If you have a serious health concern and haven’t seen a physician, make an appointment now. Don’t put off going because you’re afraid of bad news. Go before it’s too late for treatment.
I know that my posts are normally more positive than this, but there are times when we must confront the challenges in our life and positivity can be a form of denial at times if there are important issues that we need to deal with.
I know of many people who like to hide their head in the sand like ostriches and I’ve certainly been there myself.
We can try to ignore the pain. However, I would challenge you to deal with whatever challenge you’re facing now.
If you don’t, what could have been a simple filling may turn into a root canal.
Is there something in your life that you need to deal with before it gets worse?

Very true Darren but we all do it…
In my experience, the fear of something is nearly always worse than the event and the longer we put if off the larger looms the fear…
I read this-
‘Fear has the biggest eyes of all.’
I need to take my car to be checked out, the window won’t always close tightly and the last time I went through the car-wash I got soaked!

Great comment Linda and you’re right, I suspect that many of us do it, I know that I do too often.

The long I postpone a difficult conversation or something I know I should do, the worst it gets. Once I waited too long to fire a non-performing employee and ended up losing hundreds of thousands of dollars in the process. Great reminder.
And by the way, I love going to my dentist.

You’re right Maurilio,
The longer it takes the harder it gets. Ouch on the loss of money, but at least you’ll remember next time.
Thanks for visiting, I really like your site.

Yes we must. Hopefully I can encourage more people to do just that.

we have to realize that problems only disappear when we face. So as with fears, we first have to recognize and face them before we get rid of them.
