As we all know, some misguided individuals believed that the rapture was supposed to come on Saturday, May 21, 2011.

And then those crazy Mayans predicted that the world would end on December 21, 2012.

Of course it didn’t and we’re all still here.

So now what do we do?

Last weekend reminds us (besides the gullibility of a few people) that we really don’t know how much time we have left.  We could be hit by a bus tomorrow or live to the age of 100, so let’s make the most of what we have.

Now that the silly distraction is out of the way, we can focus on maximising our lives.

Now is the time to write that book or blog that you’ve been meaning to start.

Now is the time to give your spouse and kids your full attention.

Now is the time to start working on that brilliant idea that you have.

Now is the time to make the world a better place for those less fortunate.

Now is the time to go from being a church-goer to a Christ follower.

Now is the time to do all of those things that you’ve been meaning to do and that you know you should do.

Instead of worrying about the plans for the end of the world, let’s make sure that we know what the plan is for our own lives and get started on it today.

Life goes by in the blink of an eye, so sitting around philosophising about the end of the world seems to be a waste of time to me when there is still so much to be done.

By the way, it would be too easy to make fun of Harold Camping or the Mayans and their followers, but if we don’t take full advantage of the one life that we get, the joke’s on us.
