It’s easy to do what you know is right when you’re in the right mood.
Everyone does that.
Even my four-year old son cleans his room when he wants to, which to be honest isn’t very often.
One of the big differences between winners and everyone else is that they do the right thing even when they don’t feel like it.
Basketball legend Jerry West once said, “You can’t get much done in life if you only work on the days when you feel good.”
I wholeheartedly agree and so here’s a list of 12 things that I think we should all do, even when we don’t feel like it.
- Exercise
- Smile at others
- Be grateful
- Be optimistic about the future
- Pray
- Read and learn
- Persevere
- Turn up and work hard
- Listen to those around you
- Act in love
- Forgive
- Make progress on your dreams
I suspect that it’s time to take charge of our lives and not become trapped by our negative emotions.
Your future you will thank you for it.
I’m sure that this isn’t an exhaustive list, so feel free to add your suggestions in the comments below as I would love to hear your thoughts.

Listening to those around me and forgiving require just a tad more concentraton from me most days than any of the others! See, I am NOT an ultraconservative living presently in NW Alabama, in a county with 3% minorities! See why those two items might be more of a challenge for me here? But I know I am supposed to be here, at least a couplemore years. I am being stretched and developed for more awesome stuff down that road, that I am! Bless you, Coach Darren!

Thanks Rose, I’m sure that you’re not the only one who needs to be aware of those issues. There certainly is more awesome stuff in the future for you. Keep going!

Oh thank you, Coach D. Too often I hear to give yourself a break. But that break could turn into weeks and months if I’m not careful! God bless you as you keep at it!

Thanks Debbie, it is OK to have a break occasionally, but you’re right, that can soon become a habit if we’re not too careful.

We cannot avoid that sometimes we’re doing things that we don’t like and we’re doing it because of “obligation”. You are right, I pray and do my best to do it well.
