It’s virtually impossible to play it safe and be successful at the same time.

A baseball player can’t hit a home run without risking striking out.

A basketball player can’t hit the winning shot on the final buzzer without risking missing (and losing).

A footballer who steps up to take his team’s penalty risks missing and looking like a fool.

A young man who proposes marriage risks rejection and heart-break.

A business that ventures into a new market risks failure and loss.

As does the woman who quits her secure job to start her own enterprise without the safety of sick leave and a nice quiet cubicle.

The presenter who shares a new idea risks rejection and ridicule from his audience.

The church that wants to attract more people risks offending and losing their existing attenders.

I don’t know you or your situation, but one thing I can say with great confidence.

If you take the safe option, you will not achieve anything of significance.

You’ll end up watching others achieve great things while you look on with a mixture of admiration, envy and perhaps even cynicism while you repeat to yourself the long list of excuses that you’ve compiled for yourself over the years.

Excuses that justify the safe path.

Excuses that hold you back.

It’s time to leave those excuses behind.

It’s time to be bold.

It’s time to take a risk.

And it’s time to leave safety behind and grab hold of the success that’s waiting for you.
