Last week, our kids had their school cross-country run.

For the twins, it was a unique experience as they had never run one before, so we didn’t really know what to expect.

In Madison’s race, she quickly jumped to the lead and was soon about 10 metres ahead of every other girl in her grade.

As she ran, there were three older boys who led the way so that the girls didn’t take a wrong turn.  They ran alongside Madison and as they moved past my vantage point, I could hear them talking to her.

“Keep going.”

“You’re doing really well.”

“You’re going to win.”

“Great job, Madison.”

It warmed my heart to hear them spur her on and I could see her pushing towards the finish line despite being  tired.

In the end she won the race, which was a phenomenal performance and we were so proud of her efforts.

But I couldn’t help but think that she had a massive advantage.

She had three cheerleaders who kept encouraging her to the end.

People who have a lot of genuine encouragers in their life are able to go further than those who don’t.

One of the intentions of this blog is to compel, motivate and inspire my readers to reach great heights and maximise their potential.

Do you have ambitious goals?

Do you want to make a positive difference in the world?

Then you need a posse of encouragers to speak words of hope and optimism.

And while you’re at it, feel free to be one of those encouragers to someone else as well.

Well done Madison, we’re very proud of you.

And for the record, we’re just as proud of Hayden (who came 5th and will go on to represent the school at the regional competition) and Logan (who came 11th).
