I stumbled across this quote from leadership guru, John C. Maxwell today,

If you are a leader, you should never forget that everyone needs encouragement. And everyone who receives it – young or old, successful or less-than-successful, unknown or famous – is changed by it.

We live in a world where it’s easy to criticise and find fault.

To yell from the cheap seats.

To tell people how we could do it better.

Or just to flat out put people down.

But that’s not what a leader should be doing.

If we genuinely want people to do better work and to reach their full potential, we need to be encouragers.

We need to catch people doing the right thing.

We need to build them up.

We need to identify their unique strengths.

We need to celebrate progress, no matter how small.

It’s one of the reasons that I started this blog almost 10 years ago and it’s one of the driving forces behind what I do.

And I appreciate this reminder from a guy I respect enormously to keep doing it.
