Our oldest son, Hayden, turns 16 next month and this evening he completed his first shift at the local McDonald’s.

He spent the whole evening on cleaning duties, being taught how to complete the various tasks.

When I picked him up at the end of his shift, he had a smile on his face and a spring in his step.

He loved the work.

He enjoyed the interactions with his new peers.

He’s keen to keep learning more and more.

I know that it’s not glamorous, but it’s a great place to start.

As a dad, I’m very proud that he’s got a great attitude to work.

He understands that it won’t be given to him on a silver platter, but he needs to do the grunt work first.

And if he can keep doing it with a smile.

If he can maintain a fantastic attitude.

If he can build great relationships with his colleagues.

If he can find a way to make a positive contribution to the team and business.

If he can keep learning and growing.

Who knows where it will end?

But I’ve got a good feeling about it.
