Greatness isn’t given.

It won’t be handed to you on a silver platter.

It won’t come in a trust fund.

You won’t wake up one day and have it suddenly thrust upon you.

It’s never an accident.

Today, I had the privilege of listening to a lady who is an expert in cyber safety. She was a very sharp speaker with great authority on the subject.

In the midst of the discussion, she talked about social media influencers. She is from a part of Australia where they seem to be prevalent and she made the observation that it’s all so fake.

“I see them at the supermarket and their lives are not that glamourous,” she stated, “so please stop comparing your life to theirs. There is nothing real to compare to.”

I chuckled at the truth of that statement, wished that my 13 year-old daughter had heard her and then hoped for a moment that others aren’t comparing themselves to me.

Where we are right now and where we will be in the future is the consequence of our daily habits.

The habits that you have developed over time may have been helpful in getting you to your current level, but will they take you to the next level?

A man stood at the base of the mountain and looked up.

He knew that he must ascend to the top, but from his vantage point he couldn’t identify a path that would take him all the way.

All that he could see was a starting point that led gradually upwards.

Thanks.

To the colleague who acknowledges a positive outcome…

Thanks.

To every person over the past 11 or so years who has liked, commented or shared a post on this blog…

Thanks.

Tomorrow is going to be a good day.

Of course, I can’t control everything that takes place and I’m sure that there will be a couple of moments that aren’t ideal, but it will be a good day.

I am determined to make it so.

If I can string a few good days together, it will make it a good week.

Again, there may be a handful of minor frustrations along the way, but overall when you have a few good days, it must be a good week.

In our journey through life, if we are doing it right, we are constantly learning and developing.

We are eternal apprentices.

There is still much that I don’t know about parenting and being a great husband.

There are still lessons in leadership that I haven’t mastered.

Sometimes, I read a great book and shake my head in wonder.

Sometimes, I am amazed at my own ignorance and struggle to fathom how I have made it this far.

Twice in two nights, whilst reading completely different books on very different subjects, the authors discussed the story of Goldilocks and the importance of balance.

Not too hot.

Not too cold.

Just right.

It’s a principle that is easy to forget.

But if we can find that balance, it can make a massive difference to our quality of life and to the quality of our relationships.
